Home working ‘could help reduce congestion during Olympic Games’

Remote access software could be set to see a spike in demand after the government encouraged employees to stay at home if possible throughout the London Olympic Games.

According to transport minister Norman Baker, next year's Games will be a "once-in-a generation test for both our transport system and our adaptability".

Indeed, estimates by organisers suggest the number of people travelling into the city on the first day of the track and field events will be three million more than the amount travelling on a typical working day.

Mr Baker therefore believes that commuters should consider home working to stop London's transport network becoming overly congested.

"The Olympics will be a key time to really embrace these ideas," he commented.

Mr Baker was speaking shortly after Hugh Sumner of the Olympic Delivery Authority told City A.M. that home working throughout the Games could help businesses to run smoothly while the event is underway.
