There is a desire among business leaders around the world to allow staff to use their own technology in the office – a trend that could result in the same employees being able to engage in home working using their devices.
Items such as PCs, tablets and mobile phones will be used by staff as part of their everyday working schedules, if bosses get their way.
A survey by virtualisation solutions provider Citrix has showed that 94 per cent of chief information officers are in favour of this being the case.
The organisation asked more than 700 business figureheads, with the vast majority claiming they would like to see the practice adopted by 2013.
James Stevenson, area vice-president for the UK, Ireland and South Africa at Citrix, said: "Businesses that acknowledge now that this group is influencing future IT policy will be best positioned to reap the benefits."
Once this is in place, it will be easier for home working to be completed by staff, using the same technology.
Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, recently said that offering the option of home working will help firms attract young staff.
