Home working helps US firms cope with harsh weather

Remote access technology has helped businesses in the US to remain operational in the face of recent harsh weather.

Reuters reports that trading firms in East Coast areas such as Illinois, Connecticut and New York have been able to employ home working methods to mitigate the impact of a major blizzard that hit the country last week.

Josh Stiles, bond strategist at New York-based research firm IDEAglobal, told the news provider that it is now able to submit and assemble all of its content from home thanks to the use of remote access innovations.

He stated that this is preferable to attempting to commute to work when bad weather hits, as public transport systems are often affected by delays.

"We're at the point now where most people can work very effectively from home, so if they can't get out of the house and to the train ... we can operate fine," Mr Stiles added.

Earlier this month, corporate travel agency Uniglobe CT Business Travel hailed the role played by home working in helping it to remain operational and continue to maintain contact with clients during the December 2010 UK cold snap.
