Home working ‘is great for the economy’

As well as providing social benefits, home working can be very advantageous for the economy.

According to Peter Thomson, director of research at the Telework Association, while the work-life balance benefits of flexible working need to be promoted, it is also important to consider other things.

"Because it's good for the economy and the environment, not just good for families, home working and flexible working in general, [home working] should be promoted nationally as something that is good for business, and not just good for the individual," he explained.

Mr Thomson said that nationally, when home working, which could include the use of remote access software, is promoted, it tends to be lauded as a family-friendly initiative.

However, he believes the other advantages it provides also need to be highlighted in order to boost uptake.

Philip Flaxton, chief executive officer of Work Wise UK, recently talking to Silicon.com, said home working "ticks all the boxes for the environmental agenda".
