Home working ‘recommended to thousands’

18th August

Category: Workforce Mobility

The arrival of the Olympic Games in London next year could result in tens of thousands of people opting for home working as a way of escaping the extra pressure set to be put on the capital's infrastructure.

Staff at some of the city's top banks are the latest to have been advised to consider carrying out their jobs from home next summer, according to the London Evening Standard.

Among the companies backing the plans are JP Morgan, HSBC and Citigroup, all of which are said to be looking at ways to deal with the situation.

Some 100,000 people work at Canary Wharf – just a short distance from the Games' headquarters in Stratford – and Olympic bosses are wary of the area becoming gridlocked.

Home working has been backed by London 2012 chief Sebastian Coe, who is quoted by the newspaper as stating: "We are all going to have to change and challenge our arrangements - most Londoners get that."

The Olympics get underway on July 27th next year and run for just over a fortnight.
