An industry organisation has called for home working options to be provided to all workers for the benefit of all concerned.
The Telework Association has called into question the idea that remote access working and flexible hours should only be provided to carers and parents, suggesting that every employee can benefit from being offered the option.
Shirley Borrett, development director at the association, said that in most cases there is no reason not to provide this choice, as it is unlikely to be detrimental to the team or the organisation.
"A lot of enlightened organisations recognise the benefits to everybody and offer flexible working to everybody," she added.
This comes after the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development called on the government to extend the right to request flexible working to all UK workers earlier this month.
It stated that this will help to engage employees in various lines of work more effectively, as well as helping older staff members to stay in their jobs for longer.
