Companies need to educate and boost the awareness of their home working staff when it comes to the security of mobile devices.

Con Mallon, director of regional product marketing at Norton, said people must "basically start to take security seriously on their smartphones and on tablets".

Over the course of the year, awareness of security of mobile devices will become "one of the big education elements" which needs to be considered by businesses.

He said at the moment, mobile threats are "still relatively small in absolute numbers", but people working from home, perhaps with the use of remote access software, do need to be vigilant.

Zahl Limbuwala, chartered fellow of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT and chair of its data storage specialist group, recently said that home working is a lot easier within the cloud.

He explained that the platform has the potential to offer "greater portability of data for employees and consumers of IT services".
