Home working ‘ticks all the right green boxes’

20th May

Home working practices help businesses become greener, one commentator has suggested.

Talking to Silicon.com, Philip Flaxton, chief executive officer of Work Wise UK, said one of the largest barriers to flexible working, in which employees might use remote access software, is managers fear that they may not be doing what they claim to be.

"One of the biggest inhibitors to a company adopting flexible working practices is the lack of trust of staff - middle managers who say, 'I cannot see you, how do I know what you're doing?," Mr Flaxton explained.

However, he believes this concern should take a backseat, as companies can really boost their green credentials by adopting more home working practices.

"It ticks all the boxes for the environmental agenda," Mr Flaxton said, adding that the uptake is likely to continue increasing as companies try to weather the effects of the recession.

This week is the sixth annual Work Wise Week, which aims to highlight the benefits flexible working could afford to businesses.
