Businesses may increasingly find themselves relying on remote access software, as a rise in home working has been observed.
According to the Economist, over 90 per cent of firms in Germany and Sweden now allow some form of flexible working as it becomes more and more fashionable around the world.
Indeed, Sun Microsystems was highlighted as an example of a company for which half of employees work at home or from satellite offices.
The news source suggested that a desire to prevent the loss of female talent is contributing to the need for remote access, as the difficulty of combining work with childcare is addressed.
And it noted: "The trend towards more women working is almost certain to continue. In the European Union women have filled six million of the eight million new jobs created since 2000."
Last week, TMCNet.com noted that remote access software can provide a boost to companies' cost-efficiencies.
