Companies looking to implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system may wish to use an independent partner to help them through the process, it has been suggested.
Writing for Panorama Consulting, Eric Kimberling noted the option is critical for firms as it will help them choose an ERP system that best fits their needs.
The industry expert claimed an independent partner "will ensure that you implement your ERP solution in a way that transforms your business rather than maximises software, licensing and ongoing professional services revenue for the ERP vendor".
Such an alliance will result in critical implementation success factors being addressed that are not specific to the details of the software, he explained.
Mr Kimberling added these include organisational change management, benefits realisation and business process re-design.
A recent report from the Aberdeen Group, entitled ERP in SME: Fuelling Growth and Profits, found ERP technology can benefit small-scale business in a variety of ways, including real-time visibility on the status of their processes.
