Companies hoping to maximise their efficiency and reduce costs should consider managed IT services, one specialist has suggested.
Director of information at the Highways Agency Denise Plumpton noted that when she outsourced the organisation’s functions in this way it helped to make "significant savings" without compromising on quality, BusinessWeek reports.
Speaking at the National Outsourcing Association’s Sourcing Summit, she remarked: "I wanted to get simplicity, clear accountability for delivery and get efficiencies out of cost as well."
According to Ms Plumpton, who joined the body in 2005, the Highways Agency’s IT spend every year has been lowered by ten per cent and has enjoyed a quick return on investment.
One other benefit brought about by managed IT services is increased satisfaction with service desk support among the organisation’s desktop and laptop users, she explained.
Responsible for overseeing and maintaining England’s road network, the Highways Agency is part of the Department for Transport.
