Managed services relationships ‘require a clear vision’

Companies that are looking to invest in an outsourced IT or managed services contract should ensure they are fully informed about what this will entail.

This is the advice of John Enstone of London-based law firm Faegre & Benson, who suggested that outsourcing deals can often include complications that many smaller and inexperienced businesses may not be expecting.

He noted the fact that firms will need to maintain an extremely close relationship with their provider, as well as the fact that deliverables will be hard to precisely define.

However, Mr Enstone stressed that when executed effectively, outsourcing can allow businesses to experience "very substantial" cost savings and improved efficiency.

"Clarity of purpose, an eye to detail, realism and the resolve to strike a fair deal are fundamental," he explained.

Earlier this week, analyst TPI revealed that demand for outsourcing and managed services has risen across Europe in the most recent financial quarter.
