Managers ‘must adapt to home working’

5th September

Category: Workforce mobility

Home working places unique demands on businesses and managers have been advised that they must deal with these in a professional manner.

Bar Huberman, employment law editor at XpertHR, noted that some companies fear their staff will become lazy when basing themselves out of the office, but in fact the very opposite is true.

However, managers should still work hard to ensure they get the best out of their home working staff.

"Some managers require a change in management style from micro-management to really trusting and having confidence in their employees. This is really one of the barriers of flexible working," Ms Huberman stated.

The expert went on to suggest that evaluating output and offering support are the key requirements of bosses in such scenarios.

A recent survey by Mom Corps found that some 42 per cent of adults would be willing to give up some of their salary in exchange for more flexibility, such as home working.
