There are numerous benefits involved with the deployment of desktop virtualisation, it has been suggested.
Writing for IT World, David Strom observed virtual software - such as Citrix XenDesktop - can enable one operating system to run “inside” another.
The expert noted this can allow for testing out new applications before a full commitment to an enterprise-wide rollout takes place, as well as controlling multiple operating systems from a single computer to prevent having to buy additional equipment.
“You can lock down your endpoints with a single master configuration that you can deploy widely to reduce your support costs,” he advised.
Mr Strom added consumers could also obtain a protected “computer-on-a-USB-stick” that can be carried around when visiting unsecured locations.
Paul Venezia, reporting recently for PC World, claimed virtualisation can be a beneficial investment for companies of all sizes as it could serve to reduce operational costs by cutting power and cooling requirements.
