New Citrix XenDesktop model ‘to improve laptop security’

25th August

Category: Virtualisation

New virtualisation software will enable the latest Citrix XenDesktop model to bolster laptop security, it has been suggested.

Network World reporter Jon Brodkin noted companies could receive extra protection as the software will automatically encrypt corporate data on employee-owned laptops.

The enterprise and platinum editions of XenDesktop 4 Feature Pack 2 will also include a bare-metal client hypervisor, the journalist observed.

It has been designed to offer extra security for contractors or employees who bring their portable computers into work.

Simon Crosby, chief technology officer at Citrix, said the company is currently enjoying significant success in selling its server virtualisation software to desktop customers.

He added around 50 per cent of Citrix's XenDesktop revenue now comes from consumers using Citrix XenServer in the data centre.

Independent research body the Burton Group recently hailed Citrix XenDesktop as the first enterprise-ready server-hosted virtual desktop product after it met all the organisation's evaluation criteria.
