Category: Virtualisation

Virtual software provider Citrix Systems has announced the immediate availability of its new Citrix XenServer 5.6 product.

The release comes within a month of the technology being unveiled at Citrix Synergy 2010.

It adds new features across the entire product line and aims to enhance the enterprise-ready platform "with all the capabilities needed to create and manage a virtual infrastructure at a fraction of the cost of competing products".

Citrix introduced the free edition of XenServer in 2009 and the software has since been activated for production use in more than 45,000 enterprise datacentres worldwide.

Rutger Pannekoek, manager of services and application engineering at TomTom, revealed his company have employed the technology after being attracted by the open source basis of the product and the commercial support by Citrix.

Tomas Kadlec, head of IT architecture at Tesco, recently stated Citrix XenServer has become an essential building block of his firm’s business processes.
