Approximately £90 million worth of outsourced IT and accounting work is up for grabs – and one firm has outlined its intention to bid for it.
Financial company Mazars is said to be funding the new DA Partnership, which has been born out of the demise of the Audit Commission, the Guardian has reported.
The government confirmed last year that the commission is to be closed, meaning the work it would previously have undertaken will instead be outsourced.
Former public servants will be able to join the new mutual and the commission's ex-head Gareth Davies is leading the group.
"For an employee-owned mutual, it is crucial we have a strategic partner to make [our bid] possible," said Mr Davies, referring to Mazars.
A number of the commission's former staff and several private sector firms are expected to bid for the outsourced IT contracts, the newspaper noted.
Recent research by K2 Advisory concluded that the outsourcing industry is currently being revolutionised by cloud computing.
