The country’s new home secretary is a supporter of flexible working because of the benefits it can bring to families.
Theresa May has been given the post by new Prime Minister David Cameron along with her role as minister for women and equality, HR Magazine reports.
She is only the second woman to have ever held the position and recently told the publication that she was in favour of remote access employment.
The option, which can be facilitated through software such as Citrix AccessGateway, would benefit many different groups, not just mothers with children, Ms May explained.
She told the organisation that if people working within a company unit or department can decide flexible working among themselves, "it works much better than just enabling a small group to have the right to request".
Before the general election, the Conservative Party vowed to extend flexible working rights to everybody in the public sector.
