One-stop suppliers ‘could transform how firms buy IT’

Suppliers which currently offer everything firms could possibly need in IT services, from outsourced IT to 1st line IT support, will help transform the way companies buy technologies.

This is the view of Carter Lusher, chief analyst for the Enterprise Applications Ecosystem at Ovum, who told ComputerWeekly that these type of suppliers will soon be a one-stop shop for businesses.

IT departments will have to respond to these changes by forging much better relationships with their suppliers, as well as finding new ways to manage the union between them, he said.

If these suppliers get a foothold in the market, they could provide IT departments with cost savings of ten to 15 per cent due to economies of scale, Mr Lusher suggested to the website.

Recently, BG Srinivas, Infosys's head of Europe, talking to ComputerWeekly, said that banks are currently pioneering a new approach to outsourced IT.

He said they could well create a "roadmap for other sectors to follow" in the future.
