Firms could maximise operational efficiency by choosing software from enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems provider SAP, it has been suggested.

The Business Standard noted SAP - which provides the small and medium-sized enterprise-specific ERP system SAP Business One - has been selected by Godrej Agrovet (GAVL), which is the agricultural business arm of the Godrej group.

According to the source, software from SAP will enable the oil palm plantation business to improve its practices through centralisation of data.

S Varadaraj, executive vice-president at GAVL, stated: "With the implementation of SAP, we are able to provide the entire chain with real-time data through SMS and e-mail alerts to the farmers, as well as the vendors."

The industry expert added the increased product yield would also prove of great benefit to the company.

Co-chief executive officer at SAP Bill McDermott recently claimed the organisation is aiming to significantly increase its customer base by 2015.
