Outsourced IT and other operations continue to be heavily relied upon by firms within the healthcare industry, according to the latest statistics.

Figures revealed by MarketsandMarkets show business process outsourcing is still growing within the medical sector.

Indeed, its compound annual growth rate is said to be 21.4 per cent, with outsourcing in the pharmaceutical market making up the greatest share of deals – 64.3 per cent.

The research body believes this market may be close to saturation and annual expansion could be restricted to 14.6 per cent between 2011 and 2016, while healthcare provider outsourcing takes the lead with growth of 31.9 per cent over the same period.

It is also said that insurance companies – traditionally slow adopters of outsourcing – will turn to the process in large numbers in a bid to improve efficiency.

Pharmaceutical Online recently suggested that outsourcing will remain popular in the sector as many firms are looking to slash their costs.
