Companies that are struggling to cope with managing their increasingly complex IT infrastructure in-house may benefit from outsourced IT services.
Don Goodwin, chief revenue officer at US technology firm Latisys, told Smart Business that many firms are seeing their corporate IT systems grow to the extent that they are exceeding the capacity of their existing data centres.
This is forcing firms to construct additional space or place equipment in other areas, thus impacting on finances, reliability and security, while staff are also finding that the scale of their systems are starting to exceed their levels of expertise.
Mr Goodwin stated that firms finding themselves in this position should begin to consider whether IT infrastructure is one of their core competencies and if using managed services may be a better option.
He added that there are many different potential outsourcing strategies to pursue, suggesting that the decision should be based on "immediate and long-term goals and resource availability".
Earlier this month, Staffan Akesson of Ericsson stated that more and more companies are turning to outsourced IT in a bid to remain competitive.
