Companies could embrace outsourced IT in a bid to control their valuable data.

A spokesperson for database and application security experts Imperva said it is vital for businesses to think about backing up their systems.

"Backup is a very important business requirement in the event of an outage or data loss," he explained.

One way for companies to reduce this risk to their servers and data could be through the adoption of external IT support services.

The spokesperson said the problem with backup is that is can sometimes pose a security risk, meaning: "Proper measures must be in place to either block or monitor malicious activity."

Companies might want to consider managed services as a solution to this potential risk.

Recently, Service Birmingham announced it would be outsourcing the city council's IT services in a bid to make efficiency gains and reduce costs.

A spokesperson for the company said it expected outsourced IT to help reduce the council's outgoings.
