Outsourced IT ‘cuts costs’

The majority of people working in human resources believe that outsourced IT is an effective way to slash costs.

A poll by jobs website Totaljobs.com revealed that close to two-thirds of directors in this sector deemed the process to be worthwhile, reported the Press Association.

In addition, one in four suggested it could even raise the quality of the work being carried out, compared to how it is currently done by public sector bodies.

Cabinet minister Francis Maude said: "We should not tolerate wasting public money whatever the economic climate. We need to find new ways of delivering public services that are high quality, cost effective and genuinely responsive."

He added that he would like to see a host of different companies take on outsourced IT work and other tasks.

The BBC recently reported that Somerset County Council is looking towards outsourced IT as one way to help it make savings of approximately £20 million.
