Businesses around the UK have been advised that investing in outsourced IT services has a number of benefits.
Martyn Hart, chairman of the National Outsourcing Association, explained the tough economic period means many have a smaller amount of money available to them.
However, this does not mean they cannot improve their operations, boosting efficiency and productivity in the process.
He said outsourcing work to a specialist will free up resources elsewhere, enabling a company to be the best it can possibly be.
"A specialist can do it quicker, cheaper - and therefore, better - than you. Outsourcing is not just about cutting costs. Dedicating your time and energy to strategic leadership will improve ... prospects," Mr Hart commented.
Guardian Government Computing revealed last month that one company on the lookout for an outsourced IT deal is NS&I, with any potential contract between the body and a provider said to be worth up to £2 billion.
