Outsourced IT ‘is the only way to achieve required savings’

13th June

The use of outsourced IT has been identified as the only way three police forces will be able to save a total of £73 million.

Forces in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire recently revealed they are planning to use the service in order to tackle a severe shortfall in funding.

Now, the Guardian has reported that bosses from the county police departments have suggested outsourcing is the best option when it comes to achieving greater cost efficiency.

While a spokesman for Hertfordshire constabulary said the move to outsourcing is by no means a done deal just yet, it is hoped that agreement will be reached in the latest stage of a link-up between the three forces.

They have previously shared a range of services in a bid to work closer together, but this alone is not enough to make up the £73 million sum.

When news of the plan was first revealed, it was said that each police force is looking to save about £20 million a year by 2015.
