Outsourced IT ‘is the way forward for modern firms’

Companies have been advised to embrace the benefits of outsourced IT in order to prepare themselves for the changing demands of the modern business world.

Hugh Bradlow, chief technology officer at telecommunications firm Telstra, stated at a recent American Chamber of Commerce event that core IT functions ought to be outsourced to managed services providers or cloud operators wherever possible.

He said those which fail to do so risk falling by the wayside as disruptive technology advances such as telecommuting and context-sensitive computing gain prominence, reports Computerworld.

Mr Bradlow's advice comes as Telstra itself implements Project New, a revitalisation scheme that will see it outsource various functions as it seeks to eliminate superfluous levels of administration.

"The way that we have done ICT in the 20th century is not the way we need to do it for the 21st century," he explained.

Earlier this week, software firm Webcom observed that outsourced IT strategies are increasingly being pursued by firms of all sizes, rather than only larger enterprises.
