Outsourced IT ‘likely to rise’ as firms green their IT

5th July

Category: Support & Managed Services

Outsourced IT could become a more prominent trend over the coming years as firms try to implement green IT solutions.

According to a recent report from Gartner, companies will increasingly move towards options which will lead to more sustainable outsourced data storage and services.

The costs of data centre operation are expected to continue rising, with the analyst suggesting around half of the operating costs are due to heating and cooling.

This could convince firms to look towards managed IT services as a solution to these rising costs.

In data centre operations over the next five years, Gartner believes the consumption, efficiency, monitoring and management of energy are all expected to be prominent trends.

Recent research from Ovum revealed that outsourced IT is expected to take off in the telecoms sector over the coming years.

Around 12 per cent of firms in the sector use IT support services at the moment and this is expected to rise.
