Businesses that have outsourced IT are likely to benefit from the innovation of their outsourced suppliers, it has been observed.
Patrick O’Brien, senior analyst at consultancy Ovum, explained that the use of IT support services has been changing.
A survey by the firm showed that clients are "extremely positive" about the innovative capabilities of outsourcing vendors, he said.
This is something that changed in the second half of the last decade, according to Mr O’Brien, with companies now looking "beyond simple cost cutting
to find the problems that their customers have and think of new ways to employ technology to solve those problems".
His comments follow an International Association of Outsourcing Professionals report, which suggested that a growing number of organisations will be turning to outsourcing in 2010.
The need for flexibility and recapturing innovation are expected to be the main reasons for this, along with a desire to save money.
