There are many reasons to turn to outsourced IT in the current economic climate, from the potential to increase productivity to a prospective reduction of costs.
Consultancy firm Kurt Salmon has spoken of the advantages of outsourcing, which it said is changing rapidly at the moment.
Once upon a time, the only benefits of the process were driving down costs and improving efficiency, but there is now a raft of factors in its favour. For example, outsourcing can drive value, aid innovation and increase effectiveness.
It can work well with shared services, which involves gathering back-office functions and running them from one centralised centre.
The latest figures from the market suggest the number of firms turning to outsourcing is on the up. Indeed, only this week Gartner revealed there was a 7.8 per cent hike in revenue in the sector in 2011 as its value hit $246.9 billion (£155.9 billion).
