Companies that invest in outsourced IT services have been reminded that they will need to continue to manage their external operations properly in order to succeed.
Iain Smith of Diaz Research told Computerworld UK that outsourcing can bring a range of benefits to firms, including more focused management of staff and business priorities by their external provider.
However, he suggested that many companies are making the error of believing that outsourcing services means they no longer need to take any responsibility for the work undertaken by outsourced staff members.
Mr Smith stated that accountability for external workers is an issue that is ignored "at your peril", noting that proper attention must be paid to organising these staff members.
"It is surely important to see beyond the service level agreement to the actual people who have to do the work," he explained.
Earlier this month, Everest Group published research showing that investment in outsourced IT is on the increase due to the global economic recovery.
