Service Birmingham will be using IT support services to reduce the costs of the city's council.
The company, which provides services for the council, has been looking at ways to reduce costs in the long term.
A spokesperson said the firm has decided outsourced IT could be an effective way of lowering some of Birmingham council's outgoings.
"We are exploring how we can utilise some overseas expertise to help deliver a cost-effective addition to our existing Birmingham operation," the spokesperson explained.
He added that as the council's partner, it is "committed to operating as efficiently as possible".
It believes that introducing managed services could successfully deliver cost savings and efficiency gains.
The recent Harvey Nash and PA Consulting survey, published by ComputerWeekly, revealed that companies are increasingly looking towards offshore outsourced IT solutions for their business.
Around 50 per cent of the chief information officers polled said they would be outsourcing more of their IT this year.
