Outsourced IT ‘should be measured by users’

10th April

The government should do more to track the efficiency of its outsourcing programmes if it is to ensure it gets the best out of them, an expert has claimed.

Martyn Hart, chairman of the National Outsourcing Association, has used a piece for the Guardian to explain how more accurate measuring should be deployed by those who use the service.

He said the "true value" of outsourced IT can only be realised once improvements caused as a result of it are measured fairly.

Currently, far too many people judge the success of outsourcing purely on how they perceive it to be working, which could be considered an inaccurate way of working.

Earlier this month, Mr Hart told how outsourcing can help freelance workers as it will allow them to take on extra projects they might otherwise have had to turn down.

In his Guardian piece, he added that flexibility and a commitment to working as a partnership with a provider are the keys to making outsourcing the best option.
