The option of using outsourced IT contractors in the Philippines should become more widespread around the world over the coming years, if the industry's latest predictions are anything to go by.

Government officials have released a series of ambitious figures to raise revenue, increase workload and dominate four areas of outsourcing – including IT.

Alejandro Melchor, head of the Information and Communication Technology Office at the Department of Science and Technology, said the country already excels in the call centre market.

"We also intend to position the Philippines as a world leader in healthcare information management outsourcing, finance and accounting outsourcing, human relations outsourcing and animation and game development," he told the Philippine Star.

India's finance minister Pranab Mukherjee this week suggested the outsourcing market is vital to numerous global economies and urged the US not to create obstacles to a thriving industry, reported the Press Trust of India.
