Parents ‘have the right’ to flexible working

9th April

Category: Workforce mobility

Certain parents in the UK have the right to workforce mobility - which can be implemented through software such as Citrix Access Gateway - it has been claimed.

Inthenews.co.uk has earmarked flexible working as a method for employees to balance career goals and family responsibilities.

It states, however, that such an arrangement is not the norm, but has highlighted an instance in UK labour law when people have the right to ask for the option.

Those with a child who is under the age of 18 and disabled - and have been in their job for at least 26 weeks - are allowed to inquire about remote access employment.

While an employer is not legally required to permit the request, he or she is duty bound to give it serious consideration and provide a valid reason why it cannot be so.

A recent survey conducted by Microsoft in the Phoenix area revealed home workers claim to be less stressed about their occupations and pleased to save fuel on travel.
