People who are planning to ditch the office in favour of home working have been advised that extensive planning is the key to making it work.
Kim McGuinness, who runs Network Central, told the Sydney Morning Herald that she has discovered the benefits of carrying out her role from a residential property.
She advised perhaps the greatest obstacle to overcome is dealing with the isolation caused by working alone, although this can be more than made up for by the increase in family time that often occurs.
"If you can get the job done in a couple of focused hours and then go out and walk on the beach, that's great. Don't feel guilty," Ms McGuinness stated.
She added that home working started in her case when she was pregnant, as her manager suggested it may be a more comfortable way to live.
The Globe and Mail recently told how Toronto film editor James Blokland is able to roll out of bed just minutes before starting on his latest project thanks to home working practices.
