Prepare for Tube strikes ‘by allowing home working’

21st June

Category: Workforce Mobility

Home working could help companies which are likely to be affected by the Tube strikes, it has been suggested.

Alistair McKinnon, senior product manager of internet protocol multimedia at Virgin Media Business, explained that home working, perhaps with staff having remote server access, can help companies prepare in advance for things which may cause disruption.

"All businesses face unexpected disruption from time to time, yet while it may be impossible to predict the next big event that will impact your business, that doesn't mean you can't prepare for it in advance," he said.

Mr McKinnon added that businesses which use "remote collaboration tools" on a daily basis are likely to already be aware of the cost and time savings which can be reaped by
meeting virtually, when people are remote working.

The first London Underground walkout took place for six hours on Sunday (June 19th), starting at 21:00 BST.

Further strike action from the Rail, Maritime and Transport union is due to take place between 21.01 BST on Monday June 27th 2011 and 11.59 BST on the 28th.
