When making a significant move such as home working after a period in the office, it is important to weigh up the pros and cons.
The Globe and Mail has reported on the case of Toronto film editor James Blokland, who now works from his own address much of the time.
It noted that he can roll out of bed minutes before he begins his shift, walk to a different room in his pyjamas and begin work – something he is said to love.
The advantages extend even further than this, with increased flexibility enjoyed by workers and reduced costs racked up by employers.
But bosses must be careful to manage the negatives, such as the feeling of isolation home working staff can suffer from.
A recent survey by virtualisation solutions provider Citrix found that one trend it expects to rise in the future is that of employees using their own computers and tablets in the office, which could subsequently make home working easier.
