Virtualisation’s current popularity is down to the numerous benefits it can bring a company, it has been claimed.
Joseph Pasquini, writing for Processor, stated virtual software, such as Citrix XenServer, is fast becoming a main component of the information technology landscape.
The reasons for this are plentiful, the industry expert noted.
According to Mr Pasquini, the principal advantages of virtualisation are server utilisation and consolidation, which have become "the cornerstones of money-saving initiatives" for many organisations.
He explained that by minimising the number of servers within a data centre, a company can use the remaining power to its full potential, which can result in reduced overall power consumption and lower cooling bills.
Also, the virtual applications can free up administrators to carry out pressing business needs as it enables IT departments to spend less time on system tasks.
In a recent Information Week article, Joseph Brown claimed the recession has meant now is the time for enterprises to invest in virtualisation.
