Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that invest in remote access software can benefit from a more efficient workforce.
This is the suggestion of Nigel Stagg, managing director of BT Business, who stated in an article for Freshbusinessthinking.com that faster broadband speeds have facilitated the take-up of home working.
He remarked: "In the age of flexible working, seamless remote access will help businesses increase productivity and staff retention."
According to Mr Stagg, these measures will allow personnel to perform their duties "just as effectively" while at home or on the move as they could if they were in the office.
Remote access will also be a huge boost for specific industries, he added, as lawyers could have meetings with their clients without the need to liaise in person, while architects could use it to discuss designs between offices via video link.
His comments follow recent advice offered by technology insight writer at IT Business Edge Paul Mah that SMEs need to gradually introduce workforce mobility into their firms.
