Remote access ‘can help businesses to save money’

Remote access technology could be set to become more important as businesses look to cut unnecessary costs due to economic constraints.

A report from the Independent has noted that flexible and home working is becoming more widespread as a result of the downturn in the economy, as this can often help companies to save money.

For example, the Lake District National Park Authority is encouraging its workers to use phone calls or video conferencing instead of travelling to the office in a bid to drive down maximum mileage payments.

In addition to helping the organisation to cut costs, this will serve to reduce its carbon footprint.

Natasha Morley, associate director for property consultant DTZ, told the newspaper that policies of this kind are likely to become more widespread, saying: "There has been widespread recognition that presenteeism in the office isn't the be-all and end-all."

Earlier this month, NCP Engineering suggested that companies implement virtual private network technology to ensure that any remote access workers are operating securely.
