Virtual private network (VPN) technology can boost a company’s cost-efficiencies, it has been suggested.

According to TMCnet.com, remote access VPNs allow enterprises to manage their staff who are working in external locations and provides savings through increasing the use of domestic broadband.

It stated: "A virtual private network can be contrasted with an expensive system of owned or leased lines that can only be used by one organisation."

Other benefits of installing remote access technology highlighted by the website included heightened security functions, a reduction in overall operational costs against wide access network facilities and extended connectivity in geographical terms.

Workforce mobility can also improve the productivity of a business’s staff members, it added, a benefit that was recently noted by Solstice Consulting’s Eric Rosenzweig.

Writing for the Computerworld, he remarked that remote access software enables people to work from home when illness spreads through the office.
