Companies that have sturdy workforce mobility policies could benefit from increased productivity throughout this summer’s Fifa World Cup, new research has revealed.
A study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) showed five per cent of employees intend to watch football matches without the permission of their bosses, with some even admitting they will call in sick.
According to the firm, 53 per cent of men and 21 per cent of women are looking to watch games that are scheduled during working hours, although nine per cent will use annual leave to support their team.
Partner and leader of human resource services at PwC Michael Rendell said organisations that incorporate remote access policies may benefit from increased morale.
"There is huge goodwill to be gained from accommodating flexible working requests or allowing staff to take a couple of hours out to watch the games," he remarked.
Taking place in South Africa, the tournament will see England face the USA in their opening fixture on June 12th.
