Pregnant women in Manchester may be receiving a higher level of care from midwives following the deployment of remote access software at a local medical facility.
The University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) has installed a new workforce mobility program that enables medical professionals to access detailed patient records securely offsite.
IT infrastructure manager at UHSM Ray Burdge noted that technology of this kind can be "exceptionally easy to use".
He remarked: "Our community midwives get instant secure access to maternity records, while expectant mums know that their midwife will have full access to their most current records."
This allows for safe and secure consultations from a range of different locations, which provides maximum care for women who are about to become mothers, he added.
John Wright, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, recently stated that remote access software is increasingly being used by firms of this size to combat adverse weather conditions.
