Remote access technology aids Merseyside NHS trust

Remote access technology is helping the Aintree University Hospitals Foundation Trust to greatly improve the effectiveness of its operations.

Ward Priestman, director of informatics at the Merseyside-based trust, stated at a recent Infosecurity Europe event that around 40 per cent of its 4,500 ICT-enabled workers now utilise its remote access system, reports Guardian Professional.

This is allowing staff to access vital healthcare data via their home computers or mobile phones, facilitating quicker diagnoses and helping to minimise disruption in case of emergencies.

Mr Priestman noted that secure access measures have been put in place to ensure staff are able to carry out their work safely, while potentially insecure channels have been blocked.

"The people accessing that data are the right people, but they are not taking that data away with them," he explained.

Earlier this week, the Telegraph reported that UK civil servants will be encouraged by the government to use remote access technology during the 2012 Olympics, as this will help to reduce congestion levels in the city.
