Electrical supplies distributor Rexel is to improve the efficiency of its operations via a new investment in outsourced IT and virtualisation services.
The company has signed a deal with Atos Origin to provide managed services over a five-year period that will enable extensive savings.
Its data centres and information systems are to be consolidated and streamlined via the use of server virtualisation technology, allowing the company to simultaneously become more efficient and flexible.
Olivier Baldassari, chief information officer at the Rexel Group, said this move has been made necessary by the increasing size of the company following acquisitions that took place between 2005 and 2008.
"Rexel has an opportunity to rationalise its information system and make it more flexible, not only to enable cost reductions but above all to be able to adapt to developments in its markets," he added.
Earlier this week, technology expert Laura Stotler told TMCnet that firms can control outsourced IT projects just as closely as in-house operations with proper communication.
