Running VMware ‘serves several practical purposes’

18th June

Category: Virtualisation

VMware virtual technology can serve many purposes and can bring significant practical advantages, it has been claimed.

Scientific Computing reporter John Joyce noted the vast interest in virtualisation at present is "not all hype".

The industry expert used the example of VMware, which he stated "is more than just a parlour trick or an example of doing something just because you can".

Moreover, Mr Joyce argued the product can allow a firm to run multiple operating systems.

A company can use a virtual machine to safely test downloaded apps or to surf further reaches of the web, he added, while consolidating multiple servers onto one physical server can allow it to utilise existing hardware servers with greater efficiency.

VMware virtual software was recently recognised by being placed in the Leaders Quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualisation Infrastructure as it has helped thousands of customers reduce IT complexity.
