A new version of SAP's popular Business One solution – one of the industry's most famous pieces of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software – has been announced.

The company confirmed it will launch Business One 8.82 and that it will feature a number of upgrades and improvements on previous versions.

One of the most noticeable additions to the product is that of an expanded customer relationship management application, allowing users to enhance their marketing.

There will also be material requirements planning systems included, as well as tools to help firms tackle inventory, distribution and planning functionality.

Commenting on SAP's award-winning range of solutions, Forrester Research analyst China Martens told PC World: "I wonder whether user choice between Business One and ByDesign will eventually be more about where each product offers specific built-in vertical support."

Earlier this week, SAP reported excellent financial results that showed its cash reserves hit $3 billion (£1.87 billion) in the third quarter of 2011.
