Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems provider SAP is driving innovation when it comes to sustainable projects, it has been suggested.

Bill McDermott, co-chief executive officer at SAP, was speaking following the announcement the company's North American campus in Pennsylvania has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification.

The industry figure observed the organisation - which provides ERP systems such as SAP Business One - "lives and breathes innovation for our customers - in how they run their business, achieve their sustainability goals, power their business networks and empower their employees".

Its new office building is among the world's leading pioneers of green building design and is an example of how the firm acts as a role model for others when promoting the strategies it believes in, he added.

Elizabeth Kelleher, writing recently for Inside SAP, noted the Germany-based outfit has also reduced its carbon footprint by slashing its CO2 emissions in the first quarter of 2010.
