Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems from SAP are the most recognised and venerated in the industry, it has been suggested.

Writing in the Apple Holic blog at Computerworld, Jonny Evans described the technology from the Germany-based company as the "industry standard".

The specialist noted the software is "incredibly powerful and designed to coordinate all the resources, information and activities needed to complete business processes such as order fulfilment or billing".

Mr Evans surmised the applications are most likely used by Apple in its sales, distribution and materials management as SAP plays an important role in the operations of the company.

The platforms sit at the core of Apple’s business machine and helps keep its stock management running smoothly, he added.

Bloomberg journalist Susan Decker recently observed many high-profile firms - such as Siemens AG and Exxon Mobile - have chosen products from SAP to order goods and better manage sales.
